Resiliency Lesson
Objective
(Question 20: I can achieve my goal)
Encourage the students to set goals and have strategies to accomplish those goals.
Resource/Materials Needed
1.) Hand out of discussion question: this hand out will include space to answer the question.
2.) Another hand out that are title short-term goals/long-term goals.
3.) The third handout can be a document or a blank paper in which the student is able to set steps towards accomplishing the goal.
Method
1.) Have each student complete the question on their own. (2-5 minutes)
2.) Have each student share one of their goals. (5 minutes)
3.) I myself will set a goal and write it on the board to give the students a visual example. (2 minutes)
4.) Ask the students whether their goal is long-term or short-term. Then I would have the student place their goal in that area. (I will help the students place their goal in the correct area. This is also useful to help the students distinguish longer-term goals from short-term goals.) (2-5 minutes)
5.) Then, I will ask the students what step they can take towards accomplishing their goal. (Along with asking them I will constantly be giving the students a visual from my goal on the board creating steps that link towards accomplishing my goal.) (15 minutes)
6.) Ask the students what they learned on how to accomplish their goals. (2-5 minutes)
7.) Collect handout to grade and write comments.
8.) Return to students the next day.
Assessment
1.) Review/ check periodically how the child is doing and their progress in accomplishing their goals.
I did a lesson for question #20. This lesson was very fun and is a great way to help your students not only set goals but help them accomplish those goals. A lot of times students and even adults state they want to do this and they want to accomplish that; however, they never really sit down to think of strategies and steps they can take to accomplish those goals or if it is even possible. Goal planning is very important for everyone.
